Need a Tune-Up? Come by Memphis Truck Center Today!
Your car’s engine is a complex piece of machinery, it’s made up of hundreds of components all working together to ensure that your vehicle starts and runs properly. With regular use these components can wear out, resulting in a loss of performance and fuel economy. We want to explain to you what a “tune-up” is, and tips to help you know when you need one. The technicians in our Memphis Service Department are trained to work on today’s high tech engines and identify when your engine needs that extra care.
What Is A Tune-Up?
While technology has transformed vehicles considerably over the years, the basics of a gasoline engine remain the same. For an engine to work efficiently, gas and air need to be driven to the vehicle’s cylinders where combustion initiated by a spark plug creates the power necessary to move your vehicle. Clogged fuel injectors, dirty air and fuel filters, and corroded spark plugs can all decrease engine performance and contribute to decreased gas mileage. For this reason we examine your engine’s air filter, and why we recommend that you follow manufacturers’ recommendations for replacing such key components as fuel filters, positive crankcase ventilation valves, and spark plugs so you can achieve maximum efficiency.
A transmission tune up includes changing the transmission fluid and filter. In addition, we also check and adjust any parts that may have come lose over time. Finally, we clean the pan of any debris that has collected.
Time For A Tune-Up?
It may be time to consider a “tune-up” if you notice one or more of the conditions below when you operate your vehicle:
- decrease in fuel efficiency
- loss in power
- your engine running “rough” or stalling when at a stop
- engine “knocking” when accelerating or running-on after the ignition is turned off
- your “Check Engine” or “Service Engine” light remaining on after initial start
